VIDEO GUIDE
1. Choosing gear by grade instead of stats
A higher grade does not automatically make a piece better for your build. Some equipment has random stats, so two Kaku-Aoi Fusion pieces can provide very different bonuses. Replacing a useful roll just because another item has a higher grade can cost you damage.
Compare the actual bonuses before spending upgrade materials. The same applies to emblems: rarity helps, but the stats on your particular emblem still matter.

- For the damage-focused setup in this guide, prioritize flat Attack, Attack percentage, Critical Damage, then Critical Chance.
- Consider Cooldown Reduction too: using skills more often can improve damage over a full rotation.
- Compare your available pieces before deciding which one deserves upgrades.
2. Leaving weapons, gear and accessories unfinished
Obtaining a strong item is only the start. Its level and rank determine how much of its potential you are actually using.
Shattered Cloud starts with +15 flat Attack and +15% Attack. Fully upgraded, it reaches +163.5 flat Attack and +163% Attack. Missing upgrades across your weapon, gear and accessories can add up to a substantial gap.
Before farming a replacement, check the level and rank of the items you already use. Finish worthwhile upgrades on your current build instead of assuming you need an entirely new loadout.

3. Using bonuses that do not affect your build
Attack, amplification for all weapons and bonuses for a specific weapon are different effects. Read the full description instead of counting every bonus as damage for your equipped weapon.
Thug Flamingo Floatie has useful weapon-build bonuses, but its Summer Blade bonus only helps Summer Blade. If you use Shattered Cloud, that specific bonus does not improve Shattered Cloud's damage.
Check your complete set before swapping one piece. The Awakening set adds different bonuses as you equip more pieces:

- 1 piece: +15% amplification for all weapons.
- 2 pieces: an additional +15% amplification for Honoyagi.
- 3 pieces: an additional +15% amplification for Shattered Cloud.
- Breaking a three-piece setup removes its third set bonus. Compare that loss with the individual stats gained.
- While farming Sovereign, use Heavenly Burden or Chain Breaker to help complete the Awakening set.
4. Using damage skills before activating buffs
For the Shattered Cloud and Honoyagi setup, prepare your buffs before starting the damage rotation. Activating them after your strongest skills have already hit cannot improve those earlier attacks.
Bloodthirst gives +50% additional weapon damage while active. Simply equipping it without activating it leaves that bonus unused. It also costs health, so watch your health during the fight.

- Activate Bloodthirst.
- Use Honoyagi's Maculation skill.
- Switch to Shattered Cloud.
- Use your damage skills while the buffs are active.
Buff first, attack second. This is a rotation improvement you can make without farming another item.
5. Ignoring skill trees and permanent upgrades
Unlocking a cursed technique does not mean its build is finished. Awakened Limitless still needs its connected trees and domain unlocked to give you access to its full set of abilities. Check which nodes you are missing and work toward their materials.
Your Evolution Tree matters too. Apotheosis adds amplification and has seven upgrade levels. Buying its first level is only the beginning; continue upgrading it as you collect the remaining materials.
Treat permanent upgrades as part of your damage progression alongside equipment. A new weapon or technique does not replace the bonuses available from unfinished trees.

6. Leaving ailment slots unused
For the weapon build covered here, use Water Prison if you still have the required limited Bubbles. If you do not have them, Thunderbolt is the alternative to work toward.
Check both your weapons and your emblem. Replacing an item may mean you need to apply an ailment again, so include ailments in your equipment checks rather than assuming the new piece is ready.
Read your passive's restrictions before applying an ailment. Sukuna's Mark disables ailments, so an ailment-based plan will not work with that passive equipped.

7. Forgetting Attack Vows and temporary boosts
Attack Vows increase Attack for a limited time. Activate them when you are ready to fight or farm, then keep track of when the effect expires during longer sessions.
If you still use lower-tier Vows, work toward stronger versions. Shadow God offers Attack Vow VI at level 6,000 in exchange for three Attack Vows V.
Prepare the boost before starting your run so its active time is spent fighting.

- NPC: Shadow God.
- Required level: 6,000.
- Exchange: 3 Attack Vows V → 1 Attack Vow VI.
8. Treating Sorcerer Strength as actual damage
Sorcerer Strength reflects your build's stats, but it does not tell you everything about how your skills perform. Cooldowns, damage per hit and how often you can connect with an enemy all affect real damage output.
For example, Awakened Star Rage can give you more Sorcerer Strength while Awakened Limitless still deals more damage per second. That does not make every Limitless setup stronger; it shows why the displayed number is not enough to compare builds.
When testing an item or technique, fight the same enemy and compare how quickly you defeat it. For longer fights, compare a full skill rotation rather than one hit. Keep the test conditions consistent so the comparison is useful.

Before replacing your build, finish upgrades, check relevant stats and set bonuses, activate buffs, and test the result in a fight. If you still need help with your setup, ask Ashi on the site.
